The Blues
Black music born from American slaves, speaking of real and emotional things. One of its most iconic figures is B.B. King, the so-called King of the Blues.
Country
Popular white music born in the United States of America. From the earliest ballads to today it has gone through many changes, most recently evolving into new Country. Its most iconic figure is George Strait, the so-called King of Country.
Rockabilly
Music born from Southern country rock and Rhythm & Blues. The first to record this musical style was Elvis Presley, but the father of Rockabilly is Carl Perkins. In the 70s the revival of this music was called neo Rockabilly, and today it is known as modern Rockabilly.
Soul
Black music born from church gospel singing between the late 1950s and early 1960s. Among the pioneers of this music are the genius of Ray Charles and the power of James Brown. The Queen of Soul is Aretha Franklin.
The 1950s and the Birth of Rock & Roll
Which song was really the first Rock & Roll record โ The Fat Man by Fats Domino, Rocket 88 by Jackie Brenston, or Good Rockin’ Tonight by Roy Brown โ has always been a matter of debate, but the historic credit for coining and spreading the term “rock & roll” for this musical style belongs to DJ Alan Freed at the Moondog Rock & Roll Party. The American 1950s were the launchpad for Rock & Roll, seen not only as a musical style but also as a way of life. Many things changed in this period for the United States, from cars to dancing, from the way people dressed to the way they had fun. American teenagers became the heart of a nonconformist, rebellious and more sexually free America. Elvis is the undisputed King of Rock & Roll.
